It Can’t Be That Easy..
If you’ve been following the previous blogs you may be thinking..Is it that easy? Follow the hunger scale… if I’m not physically hungry then analyze my thoughts and I won’t want to eat anymore? Well yes and no…sometimes that is truly all there is to it. If you are not actually hungry, and you stop to recognize your thoughts, chances are you won’t want the food anymore. I know that sounds crazy, but it’s true! Remember who you are talking to…this girl LOVES her food! But truly, once I started owning the thoughts that went along with eating, I just didn’t feel like eating the food anymore.
There’s a catch…
Of course there is! The reason we reach for food to cover those thoughts and feelings is because typically those thoughts are not the most pleasant ones. We are reaching for food to avoid them. You didn’t realize it before, but now you do. So take ownership of it. These thoughts may be anywhere from slightly uncomfortable to downright painful. But do it!! Experience them! They are part of you. They are there anyway…you can’t eat them away.
Stop hiding from them. Own them, feel them, and then move on. They are only thoughts and feelings. They can’t actually harm you.
Other types of eating…
We don’t only eat when we are physically hungry or avoiding some emotion. Here are the types of eating. We will go into more detail on each in upcoming blogs.
Hunger- actual physical hunger
Emotional- eating to avoid emotion
Dazed and confused- complete unawareness of eating
Ravenous – So physically hungry that you eat everything in site
Enjoyment – eating for pure enjoyment
